The MINI John Cooper Works GP dubbed as the fastest production Mini in history and the special-edition Mini will go on sale later this year with 2,000 of the cars will be built, including the U.S. allotment.
Honed on Germany’s Nürburgring-Nordschleife in a very impressive 8 minutes and 23 seconds, which makes it about 19 seconds faster than the previous generation.
Mini hasn’t confirmed anything yet but it will be more than the 214 horsepower of the previous model. Under the hood, rumor has it the 1.6-liter twin-scroll turbocharged engine that has been upgraded to make up to 230-hp.
“Underpinning the performance characteristics of the MINI John Cooper Works GP is exclusive powertrain, chassis and aerodynamics technology inspired directly by motor sport,” Mini said in a statement. “Its twin-scroll turbo engine generates outstanding torque, displays remarkable elasticity and demonstrates a healthy appetite for revs. Specially developed, adjustable race suspension channels this superlative output into spectacular yet precisely controllable handling.”
Mini says it has reworked the entire chassis include exclusive chassis and aerodynamics elements, four-spoke lightweight alloys,a bespoke roof spoiler are just part of the package, and a newly developed rear diffuser.
