The 2013 Ford Explorer Sport crossover was announced yesterday, ahead of its launch at next week’s 2012 New York Auto Show.

“Adding an EcoBoost drivetrain to Explorer Sport delivers even more fuel efficiency and performance to the lineup, highest-performance, most capable Ford Explorer ever,” according to Explorer chief engineer Bill Gubing.

Which will come with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 with at least 350 horsepower (261 kW / 355 PS) and 350 pound-feet of torque through four-wheel drive with a Terrain Management System. The 2013 Ford Explorer Sport will return best-in-class fuel economy of up to 16 mpg (14.7lt/100km) in the city driving and 22 mpg (10.7lt/100km) on the highway.

On the exterior, is distinguished by a revised front fascia, roof rails, mirror housings, gloss black trim and machined wheels. A mesh grille and functional lower bumper openings complete the look.

On the interior, the cabin is nicely equipped in Charcoal Black leather, illuminated scuff plates, dashboard trim and Sport-logo floor mats.

Buyers will be able to choose from four exterior colors, including Ruby Red Metallic Clearcoat, White Platinum Metallic Tri-Coat, Tuxedo Black Metallic and Ingot Silver Metallic.

Optional extras include Ford active park assist, a moonroof and a proximity key, a blind spot/cross-traffic monitor, inflatable rear seat belts.
