Although not present at 2012 Detroit Auto Show, but the first official photos of 2013 Porsche Boxster has revealed onto the internet. Porsche stemmed impact by the third generation of the Boxster since the birth of the series in 1996.
With design-wise, the 2013 Boxster a lot sexier too, thanks to a design incorporating shorter overhangs, square-shaped headlights inspired by the units on the 918 Spyder Concept hybrid supercar. The rear gets a similar set of tail lamps to the outgoing model but with a protruding crease in the middle.
The new Boxster uses a new lightweight body with a longer wheelbase, a wider track. These new dimensions are coupled with larger, 20-inch wheels and a new electromechanical power steering system to significantly enhance the mid-engine sports car’s handling and dynamics. Optional is Porsche Active Suspension Management, which actively regulates the damper force to each wheel based on a combination of road conditions and driving style – it also lowers the car 10mm.
The 2013 Boxster owner six-speed gearbox is standard, with a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission available as an option. Both are powered by engines with direct fuel injection, the efficiency of which is further enhanced by electrical system recuperation, thermal management and an engine start-stop function.
In the base Boxster the 2.7 liter engine produces 265 HP (261 bhp / 195 kW), can complete the 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint in 5.7 seconds (vs. 5.8 seconds for the outgoing model). The new engine is also now equipped with automatic start/stop to help save fuel in city or stop and go driving.
The sportier Boxster S powerful 3.4-liter engine with 315 horsepower (311 bhp / 232 kW), that is 5 HP more than the previous version. The Boxster S’s 0-60mph time is 4.7 seconds.
The new 2013 Porsche Boxster is expected in German showrooms on 14.04.2012 with a list price of 48,291 euro and 59,120 euro (19% VAT incl), respectively.
