At the 2012 Detroit Auto Show that begins early next month, General Motors will unveil a hotter version and the first pictures and details of the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS.
“The new Chevrolet Sonic RS pushes Chevrolet’s performance heritage in a new direction, for a new generation of drivers,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Global Chevrolet Marketing. “It takes the Sonic’s great design and latest connectivity features and combines them with a more performance-oriented look and feel.”
Offered exclusively with the five-door hatchback body style and comes with Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system as standard. The 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS gets a new front fascia inspired by the concept that features a deeper air dam design and vertical intakes housing the fog lamps on the corners. It also gets a custom body-kit, new RS-specific grille, 17-inch wheels, aluminum pedals and sports seats.
Under the bonnet of the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS is the Ecotec 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, it produces 103kW of power and 200Nm of torque, and should propel the RS from 0-100km/h in around 7.5 seconds. The engine is teamed with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, both of which have revised gear ratios for a sportier driving feel.
After the details have been released, its price has not been disclosed.
