The 2013 Bentley Contintental GT & GTC V8 engine will be announced at 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The Bentley Continental now has the option for a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 engine to compliment the car’s current big 6.0 liter twin turbo W12 engine in the Continental GT and GTC – the V8 model will be called the Bentley Continental V8.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive, Bentley Motors commented on the launch of the new V8 models. “With the new 4.0 litre V8 engine we are widening the appeal of the latest generation of Continentals, introducing a completely new driving experience. The new engine will have all the exhilarating power, drama and performance you would expect from a V8 engine sporting the famous Bentley wings, effortlessly delivered with our characteristic ‘wave of torque’. This is complemented by innovative powertrain technology that delivers exceptional fuel efficiency and emissions.”
No official details have been released on fuel economy and emission figures, but the new Continental GT V8 models should remain true to the automaker’s promise of reducing CO2 emissions by up to 40 percent compared to its previous models. Bentley claims the 2013 Bentley Continental GT V8 models will be able to travel over 800km on a single tank of fuel.
Under the hood, it’s delivers maximum power of 500bhp (507 PS / 373 kW) at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 660Nm (487 lb ft). Drive is sent to all four-wheels via a new close-ratio eight-speed automatic transmission and Torsen differential with 40:60 rear-biased split. Coupled with the a new close-ratio 8-speed automatic transmission and its new all-wheel drive system, the new V8 models can accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100kph) in under 5 seconds and has a top speed of 180mph (290kph).
