2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be on display at the Ford stand at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show starting today. Ford had a lot of plan building up for the new 2013 Ford Mustang and with many fans thinking that it was going to be a completely new design.
With a top speed in excess of 200 mph (320 km/h), realize that it was thanks to Ford’s engineers have improved the lot about engine, and weight. Under the hood is a supercharged 5.8 liter aluminum-block V8 that produces 650 hp (485 kW / 659 PS) and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) of torque. That engine unit is coupled to an upgraded six-speed manual gearbox. Now drop this epic powertrain in a car that only weighs 3,850 pounds and you can just imagine what kind of damage you could do at a race track.
“SVT keeps the Shelby GT500 on the cutting edge of technology and takes muscle car performance to new heights,” said Jost Capito, director of Ford’s Global Performance Vehicles and Motorsport Business Development. “We encapsulated every aspect of performance in this car – whether it’s 0-60, top speed, racetrack or quarter-mile times. Beyond that, the daily driver also will find this car perfectly fits his or her needs.”

The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 comes fitted with 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inchers at the back wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 tires. One of the most crucial modifications Ford’s engineering team from SVT made was to the gearing. Nearly every gear on the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 was revised to manage the torque and use more of the power in a way that makes it more driver-friendly. Engineers considered more than 35 gearing combinations, finally deciding on one that delivers less torque all the way through the wheels to the ground and still enables the car to achieve fuel economy targets.
