Two weeks ago, 2012 Subaru BRZ was exhibited the STI-badged concept model at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show
. Just hours before its scheduled unveiling at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show
, Subaru BRZ has revealed the first images and details of the sports car.
“The Subaru Boxer engine in the BRZ was positioned even lower than other Subaru models so that the BRZ has one of the lowest possible centers of gravity on the market today,” Subaru said in a statement. “This low center of gravity produces astonishing handling character and combined with a light-weight chassis BRZ realizes Subaru’s aim for “Pure Handling Delight” — the driving experience taken to a new level.”
From this first set of pictures, we see that the exterior styling changes of the Subaru BRZ. Unique elements of the BRZ are its grille and front bumper design, headlight detailing, custom fender vents, integrated exhaust tips, and revised tail-lamps
The 2012 Subaru BRZ stands 170 inches in length, 70 inches in width and 52 inches in height. Weighing in at just 2,689 pounds, the Subaru BRZ is also powered by the same 2.0 liter 4-clyinder boxer engine in the Toyota GT 86. Toyota’s “D-4S” direct injection and port injection technology, which is rated at 200-horsepower and 205Nm (151 lb-ft) of peak torque.
Sales of the 2012 Subaru BRZ will start in Japan and the UK early next year. No word on whether the model will come to the United States as of yet. Unfortunately, Subaru is yet to reveal the BRZ’s interior but stay tuned for more images following its debut tomorrow at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.
