Today, the 2012 Jaguar XKR-S Convertible was announced at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show
. With its 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds and can reach an electronically limited top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), the new 2012 Jaguar XKR-S
Convertible is quite simply the fastest convertible Jaguar has ever built.
Chief engineer Mike Cross explains: “Because the XK was designed as a convertible it has great structural integrity. This allowed us to apply the XKR-S coupe’s sporting suspension settings to create a convertible with no compromises. Its blend of great speed, precision and dynamism is given an extra dimension with the roof down and that thrilling exhaust soundtrack.”
Fans of the Jaguar XKR-S will no doubt approve of the Convertible’s styling, which has lost none of the Coupe’s hard-edged elegance. The hot convertible adopts all the styling cues from the coupe model including a redesigned nose and front bumper with twin side inlets, a vented hood, new sills and a rear wing with a carbon insert on the outside, as well as the carbon fiber trim on the inside.
The fabric roof opens and closes in 18 seconds and can be ordered in seven different colours and the car features technologies such as Performance Active exhaust that helps with output and has its own distinct sound. The rear spoiler is unique to the Convertible and works in conjunction with the rear apron and carbon fibre diffuser to reduce lift by 26 per cent and balance the car’s aerodynamics. Additionally, Adaptive Dynamics for the suspension provides safer and more exciting handling for the driver.
Inside, the XKR-S Convertible features 16-way adjustable carbon-leather performance seats, as well as a multi-function leather-wrapped steering wheel, Jaguar-embossed stainless steel pedals, and dark aluminium and piano black surfaces.
UK deliveries are expected to begin at the beginning of the 2012 year with prices starting at just £103,000 and $138,000 MSRP in the U.S.
