Today at the Los Angeles Auto Show, 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth has officially confirmed to its U.S. lineup. Expected it’s to arrive in North American dealer showrooms early in 2012.
Looking like a kitted-out version of the standard 500 but the good news is that Fiat is expected to come equipped with a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces as much as 160-hp โ€“ 59-hp more than the standard car. Other upgrades will include a stiffer suspension, larger brakes, bigger wheels and tires, plus a aggressive bodywork and plenty of graphics. With the car Fiat is looking to take the fight to its closes rival, the MINI Cooper S.
On the outside, the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth gains a new bodykit with unique front and rear bumpers and spoilers plus bespoke graphics and two prominent tail pipes on either side of the rear diffuser. Interior goods include a set of body-hugging sport seats dressed in leather and Alcantara with red accent stitches, a thick rimmed, flat bottom steering wheel, a revamped instrument cluster, aluminum pedals and sportier-looking trim throughout.

In an official release, the company says the car is, โ€ designed for track-day enthusiasts and driving-purists who want the ultimate high-performance small car with the pedigree of an exclusive Italian exotic.โ€
