A new Toyota Prius C brochure JDM has been leaked thanks to a tip from a reader in Japan who goes by the nickname “i-Ryuji”. Production model for the Japanese domestic market will come with a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain with 100 HP.
First announced as a concept at the 2011 Detroit auto show, and subsequently teased in a Toyota Prius commercial, the Toyota Prius C is a hatchback that appears to merge cues from the regular Prius and the Yaris hatchback. A brochure shows that the Japanese-specification Prius c wears the same Hybrid Synergy Drive badges seen on other Toyota hybrids. The overall design looks like Prius fascias were grafted onto a Toyota Yaris.
The brochure provides details on what will be the smallest member of the Prius range of vehicles, which Toyota is introducing at a pretty brisk pace. The Prius C will be a compact urban-tourer that measures 3,995 mm (157 inches) in length, 1,695 mm (66.7 inches) in width and 1,445 mm (57 inches) in height. Power comes from a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain which couples a 1.4 liter unit with 74 PS (54 kW / 73 hp) and 111 Nm (82 lb-ft) of torque to an electric motor producing 61 PS (45 kW / 60 hp) and 169 Nm (125 lb-ft). Transmission is a CVT but maximum combined output, though, is only 100 PS (74 kW / 99 hp).
The leaked brochure also has pages showing a variety of different accessories and trim levels for the Prius C, including a styling package that adds an aggressive front fascia and bigger rear spoiler. The Prius C’s fuel-economy rating looks good but standards are different in Japan so these aren’t the numbers you will be seeing in the North American and European variants. In Japan, Toyota claims the Prius C will have a rating of 35.4 km/liter or 2.8 liters/100 km (83.3 mpg US).
“The Prius V will be followed by the Prius Plug-in next March, and the Prius C will follow in the Spring,” said Carter. “The Prius C will offer expressive styling in a city-friendly vehicle that we believe will be the most fuel efficient hybrid without a plug in the U.S. While we showed you a “C Concept” at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, we will be debuting the production Prius C for the first time in Detroit this coming January.”
