In July last, BMW is announcing a 5-Series with four cylinders. BMW 5-Series
has decided to apply the 240 horsepower 3.0-liter V6 from the BMW 528i for the U.S. market, instead replacing it with a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder that the automaker says makes this sedan its most fuel-efficient 5-Series ever offered in North America.
The 2.0-liter will produce 240 hp at 5000 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque from 1250 rpm. That matches the horsepower figure for the old six and surpasses it in the torque department with 30 additional lb-ft, peaking 1350 rpm earlier. The engine is direct injected and uses BMW’s Valvetronic variable-valve-lift system. A ZF-supplied eight-speed automatic will be the only transmission available, although the 2012 BMW 528i will see the addition of xDrive all-wheel drive as an option.
While not breathtaking, the 2012 BMW 528i interior is very nice – when equipped with the $1,800 Premium Package. The iDrive system,
updated and refined, is the most intuitive in the segment. The display
screen makes all the controls easy to see and the iDrive knob is
conveniently located on the center console exactly where you’d rest your
